Cubase 4.5...

I haven't downloaded and installed it yet, because their server is shit-hammered (note to Steinberg: go read about Amazon S3 please), but reading the feature list leaves me with the following question: "4.5? Really?" I mean, they can number it whatever the fuck they want, really. But traditionally a .5 release means a big raft of new shit. I suppose that's the case here, if by "big raft of new shit" you actually mean "big raft of Yamaha product integration." Now, I don't have any particular problem with Yamaha products, and in fact they have made some things in the past that definitely made the job of creating music more enjoyable and easier. But this assimilation of a top-line DAW will eventually relegate Cubase to the same laughing-stock status enjoyed by other DAWs that shall remain nameless but you all pretty much know what I mean. Or to put it another way, the combination of VST3 and total Yamaha assimilation means that Cubase is well on the road to giving up its market force status and turning in to value-added content for Yamaha stuff. I have seen the future, and it doesn't include Cubase, I'm sorry to say. Which is a shame, because I actually like it, and use it professionally. Oh, well, I'll grab this update on Monday and see what's what. I read that they finally ended their absolutely tragic preset experiment. I wonder what nonsense they came up with to replace it.
