KIND Audio Launches KDX / KQX Amplifiers
Following a preview at the ProLight+Sound in Frankfurt, KIND Audio has now
formally announced the launch of its new KDX / KQX amplifier series,
consisting of the 2-channel KDX range and the 4-channel KQX range. Both
amplifier series offer premium quality, light weight, compact size and high
power for either live performance or permanent installation.
The 7 KDX models range from 2 x 300W to 2 x 1500W into 4 Ohm, and all offer
a higher power 2 Ohm capability. The 3 KQX models range from 4 x 400W to 4 x
700W into 4 Ohm. All of the new amplifiers are based on Class D output
circuits, controlled by KIND Audio's patented TeoTon technology, which
provides ultra-low distortion, high efficiency (more than 85%), greatly
reduced power distribution demands, low heat dissipation, compact size, and
sonic integrity. The design also incorporates a switchmode power supply for
efficiency and light weight.
The KDX / KQX series incorporate comprehensive warning and protection
features to safeguard the amplifier and loudspeakers and front-panel
indicators give clear warnings when any potential problems are detected.
Protection measures are enabled only when critical thresholds are passed or
at start-up. Additionally, a soft-start circuit limits initial current draw
when the amplifier is turned on. The complete protection / warning suite
includes: short circuit, open circuit, thermal, RF protection, mains over /
lower voltage, on/off muting, DC fault shutdown and clip limiter.
Under normal use these features are inaudible and all protection methods are
independent for each channel. The loudspeaker sensing circuit protection
constantly monitors the current at the amplifier's output. When the loads
current exceeds the amplifier's limit, the output voltage is automatically
re-adjusted to keep the amplifier in a security condition. An additional
circuit, with automatic reset, shuts down the amplifier's channel if a full
short is made between a positive output and ground. The temperature
management system senses the output devices temperature. In case of
inadequate ventilation or overload, the hi-temp LED operates and a level
compensation process is enabled. This protection safeguards the amplifier
and prevents definitive muting for over-temperature.
The KDX / KQX series amplifiers have an open input architecture and can
accommodate an optional Digital Signal Processing board (KIND DSP Board-1)
that can provide all of the functions of a loudspeaker system
crossover/controller without the need for an external processor. They can
also accommodate a remote control that allows monitoring of all key
amplifier parameters, including power on/off, channel mutes and channel solo
functions. The amplifiers have front panel dust filters, for easy cleaning,
and accommodate three input connector types; a 3-pin detachable Europlug
(Phoenix) and XLR and quarter-inch Jack via a Neutrik ComboT.
KIND MD, Alessandro Cortese is enthusiastic about the new amplifiers, "The
KDX / KQX series not only offer the latest combination of technology,
performance and audio quality, but our recent investment in new production
and test systems and automation mean we are now bringing these Italian
manufactured products to the market with very attractive pricing".
