K.M.E. in Black Magic at the 21. World Scout Jamboree
100 years ago the first scout camp took place at Brownsea Island under the direction of Sir Robert Baden Powell. This event rates as the birth of pathfinding, which develops to the worlds biggest youth movement in the last century. Every four years the so called „Jamboree“ takes place. The scout camp came back to its roots in Great Britain where more than 38.000 young people met to live their morals and traditions and to establish international and cultural nets under the topic “One World, One Promise”.
The German pathfinders were based at the Hylands Park in Chelmsford from 27th July to 8th August. Three youth organizations - Bund der Pfadfinderinnen und Pfadfinder (BdP), Deutsche Pfadfinderschaft Sankt Georg (DPSG) and Verband Christlicher Pfadfinderinnen und Pfadfinder (VCP) – participated all together as ring of German pathfinder organizations in the project „Black Magic“, the German cultural center at the plaza of the jamboree area. With an area of about 2000 sqm this huge black tent construction was the biggest one ever built on a jamboree. It was composed of the traditional black tents which are normally used by the scouts for sleeping and living. The center of the construction was a big hall where a stage, a bar and other tents affiliated. Here performances, expositions and events took place giving young people from different countries and cultures a platform to talk, to discuss and to make friends.
The hall in front of the 6 x 5 m stage was huge enough for about 500 guests. K.M.E. provides as sponsor the Individualized PA system CA 7, consisting of two top parts and four subwoofers. The two top parts CSA 400 D were mounted with flying frames and the subwoofers CBA 700 D were placed under the stage. As monitoring two QSA 500 D were used. The installation of the system was very easy and fluently. The top parts have a very good defined dispersion providing a separation between both areas in the hall. Due to the demand that on the opposite site on the bar a communication during the performances should be possible, a precise reproduction was indispensable. All in all the PA sounds very neutral and powerful and shows low sound coloration also at a high output level. At the stage many different shows took place, from singing with guitar, choirs over theater plays to rock concerts and hip hop. Just when cautious actors performed (many of them for the first time at the stage) the system was non-sensitive for feedback, so that also a low choir could be reproduced clearly.
