Meyer Sound M’elodie Nominated for a 2007 TEC Award Meyer Sound's M'elodie™ ultracompact high-power curvilinear array loudspeaker, the newest and smallest member of the MILO® family of loudspeakers, has been nominated for a 2007 Technical Excellence & Creativity (TEC) Award in the category of Outstanding Technical Achievement, Sound Reinforcement Loudspeaker Technology. The nomination is the company's 25th in the TEC Awards' 23-year history, and the fourth MILO family member to be nominated. (The others were the MILO high-power curvilinear array loudspeaker in 2004, MILO 120 high-power expanded coverage curvilinear array loudspeaker in 2005, and MICA™ compact high-power curvilinear array loudspeaker in 2006.) The TEC Awards, which recognize outstanding achievement in professional audio production and product design, will be presented on Saturday, October 7, 2007, at the New York Mariott Marquis in New York City, in conjunction with the 123rd Audio Engineering Society (AES) Convention. “We've received more than two dozen TEC nominations, and each one has been a distinct honor," says Helen Meyer, executive vice president of Meyer Sound. "We are very excited by the industry's immediate and enthusiastic acceptance of M'elodie, and grateful to the nominating committee for recognizing a product we are quite proud of." Weighing a trim 62 pounds and measuring less than 29 inches wide (rigging included), M'elodie nonetheless generates a robust maximum peak output of 131 dB SPL. M'elodie’s QuickFly® rigging allows unprecedented flexibility and ease of use in either flown or groundstacked arrays. If M'elodie wins, it will be Meyer Sound's sixth TEC Award. Prior Meyer Sound TEC Award winners are: the original SIM® source independent measurement system (1984), HD-1 high definition audio monitor (1990), PSW-6 high-power cardioid subwoofer (1999), UPM-1P ultracompact wide coverage loudspeaker (2000), and MILO (2004). All remain current Meyer Sound products. (The SIM 3 audio analyzer is the third generation of SIM systems.) M'elodie has been warmly received worldwide across a full spectrum of sound reinforcement applications, and received a mipa Award for best Large Format PA System at the Musikmesse/Prolight + Sound exposition in Frankfurt, Germany earlier this year. Recent M'elodie installations include at the Joy Christian Fellowship in Medford, Ore., Barbican Hall in London, and the renowned Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. M'elodie accompanied Diana Ross to the island of Elba for a posh corporate gig, and is serving fill duty on Rod Stewart's "Rockin' in the Round Tour." The Cameron Mackintosh productions of Miss Saigon in Australia and Brazil feature M'elodie in a prominent role (in the sound system, not the cast), as does Jonathan Deans's sound design for the new musical, Pirate Queen, while rental companies like Showtec Communications in Singapore leverage M’elodie’s exceptional versatility. Founded in 1985, the Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards are presented annually by the Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio, a non-profit corporation headquartered in Walnut Creek, Calif.
