When PRS Guitars debuted the first Custom 24 electric guitar model more than a quarter century ago, it was hard to imagine that an ambitious young man from Bowie, Maryland could give rise to a philosophy and a brand that would later become for many the bar by which electric guitar quality standards are measured. Recently identified by Guitar World as one of the 30 greatest guitar moments of the last 30 years, the development of the Custom 24 not only resulted in what Guitar World referred to as a ?full blown American guitar renaissance? but it set the framework for what still remains PRS Guitars today, a company driven to make the best musical instruments possible.

Described as an English sound with an American twist, PRSs newest amplifier package, the PRS 30 Combo, is the first 30 Watt cathode biased combo in a series of lower wattage amps. The series kicked off with the 16 Watt PRS Sweet 16 model earlier this year. The new 30 Watt Combo features a quartet of EL84 tubes with a control layout similar to PRSs Dallas model and a 1 x 12 cabinet with ET65 WGS speakers.

PRS Guitars and the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins hosted their Tenth Annual Charity Weekend to raise funds for the "Living with Cancer Resource Program", part of the Harry J. Duffey Patient and Family Services Program at Hopkins on October 3 through October 5, 2009.

Paul Reed Smith Guitars unveiled a limited run of solid body electrics featuring the new 1957/2008 pickups during the Experience PRS open house event in Stevensville, Maryland September 19. PRS acquired exclusive rights to the original pickup wire used in the most revered ?50s era pickups in 2008, and 1957 was the year the humbucker was first commercially available, giving rise to the name for PRS Guitars? newest and most exclusive pickup.

The newly updated Modern Eagle II builds on the tradition of the Modern Eagle with premium grade wood, classic Modern Eagle frets and a Modern Eagle wide fat neck carve and adds to that an all new pickup system and updated finishing techniques.

The Al Di Meola Prism features a curly maple custom ?9? top with mahogany back, 25? scale length, 22 fret Mexican rosewood fingerboard, custom Al Di Meola neck carve, grommet style locking tuners, standard abalone bird inlays and a tremolo bridge.

Similar in spirit to the double cutaway Mira model introduced at Experience PRS 2007, the single cutaway Starla has many vintage themed appointments and is PRS Guitars? first solidbody electric guitar featuring a standard Bigsby B5 tail piece and a Grover Tune-O-Matic bridge. There has been some speculation online about a secret Jane's Addiction show this week. Well, there is no need to speculate... Jane's Addiction will be performing this Thursday night, October 23rd, at La Cita Bar (336 South Hill Street) in downtown Los Angeles. This will be the first Jane's Addiction show in years with the original line up.

PRS Artists including Paul Reed Smith, Tony McManus, John Wesley of Porcupine Tree and Bernie Marsden will be performing at the Meinl Guitar Festival in Germany on June 27th, 2009. In addition to the performances, a selection of PRS electric and acoustic guitars will be on display.

The newly released PRS Amplifiers, Acoustics and Sunburst Series will be showcased at this year?s Dallas International Guitar Festival April 17-19 in Texas. Paul Reed Smith Guitars new acoustic line of guitars received the Musikmesse International Press Award (MIPA), known as the Grammy" of the Musical Instrument/ProAudio industry, for "Best Acoustic Guitar." Awards were presented at a special ceremony held during the Musikmesse / Prolight + Sound trade show on April 2 in Frankfurt, Germany, with more than 100 magazines from all over the world voting for the best products of 2008/2009.

Signing on as the first rock and roll resident artist in Las Vegas, Carlos Santana brings his legendary talent to The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino through a multi-year deal with AEG Live. Through 2010, The Joint will be the only place west of the Mississippi where fans can see Santana perform. Titled to pay homage to his most successful body of work to date, Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through the Hits debuts on Wednesday May 27 and features the artist?s signature fusion sound in a show designed exclusively for the new venue.
