Stylish and ultrathin Sound Shower directional audio speakers enable museums and galleries to deliver high-quality, focused audio to targeted areas without disturbing the surrounding environment. Museums and galleries continue to be major drivers for directional audio. The need for museums and galleries to deliver sound for information purposes or exhibits has to be balanced with the desire to maintain the quiet dignity and ambiance of the venue. Achieving this balance has been nearly impossible with traditional speaker technology, which is why many museums and art galleries use cumbersome-and uncomfortable-portable players and headsets. By incorporating directional speakers into their facilities, these institutions can offer a range of audio alternatives for exhibition plan ners while still maintaining the quiet ambiance that guests (and staff) appreciate without having to use the aforementioned headsets. The limitless audio alternatives a museum can use directional audio for include: narration or commentary, ambient or background music, visitor instructions, and nature sounds, such as light rain, animal calls, or a babbling brook. Along with being able to provide high-quality directional audio, additional benefits of using Sound Shower speakers are the ultrathin profile and customizable color that make them easy to blend into the surrounding decor. Also, because the audio produced by these speakers attenuates very slowly, they can be placed on very high ceilings and still deliver a focused audio footprint were needed-no need for unsightly hanging tubes or domes. Museums and galleries of all type, large and small, public and private, rely on Sound Shower directional speakers for all their focused audio needs. Users include: The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, USA Ateneum Art Museum, Finland Tate Modern, UK Center Pompidou and Exposition Huguenots, France Koninklijke Bibliotheek (National Library), Netherlands Vapeenmusuem, Sweden Churchill Museum, UK The Aquarium of Cattolica Le Navi, Italy London Transport Museum, UK Seattle Art Museum, WA, USA Waipu Museum, New Zealand The Maritime Museum of Finland American Jazz Museum, MO, USA BMW Museum, Germany La Biennale di Venezia, Italy Toyota Visitor Center Museum, TX, USA National Gallery of Art, Paris, France Lilliesleaf Farm Museum, South Africa ...and hundreds more.

Community Provides Shore-to-Ship Communications for Turkish Port Community Provides Shore-to-Ship Communications for Turkish Port
07:34 PM
Istanbul-based Mikafon Elektronik has installed Community RSH-462 Focused Array horn loudspeakers to provide a shore-to-ship control and warning system at İDAŞ port, located at Biga/Canakkale in the north-east of Turkey. Founded in 1880, and with nearly 10,000 employees, İDAŞ is the largest capacity privately owned steel producer in Turkey, also operating in the fields of ship building, port operations, piloting and towing, land and marine transportation, shipping, brokerage, insurance, international trade, tourism, construction and power generation. With two piers and a wharf, İDAŞ port has a total berthing area in port of 1,680 metres, which can accommodate up to 20 vessels at the same time. Approximately 7,500 containers can be stored on 100,000 m2 at the port, a capacity which makes the port the largest container and general cargo stock area in the region. The port is airside, so it requires an effective traffic control communication system, explained Mikafon Elektroniks managing director, Erkan Polat, Needing massive SPL with uncompromised intelligibility, we designed a system using just eight Community RSH-462 loudspeakers. Each RSH-462 uses four Community M200 compression drivers on an Exponential Focused Array wave guide, giving an accurately controlled dispersion of 60 x 20 degrees with a sensitivity of 118 dB/W/m and power handling of 750W programme. These voice-range or tone signaling devices are remarkable, with a capability that has to be heard to be believed. Extreme all-weather design was also a major factor for both the products and the installation, continued Erkan Polat, The Port has prevailing north-easterly winds and waves, with the salt-spray of any exposed coast, and the region also has very high rainfall and summer temperatures. The materials and design of the RSH-462 are unequalled for all-year, all-weather use, giving us and the port authorities the level of reliability we need in the system. These Community loudspeakers have provided the facility with a highly effective system and the ICDAS Port Authorities are very pleased with the results.

A B Noam Electronics new Israeli distributor DPA Microphones A B Noam Electronics new Israeli distributor DPA Microphones
08:16 PM
A B Noam Electronics new Israeli distributor DPA Microphones has appointed A B Noam Electronics as its new distributor for Israel. Established in 1972, A B Electronics is particularly active in the sound and theatre markets, importing and distributing high quality products for sound reinforcement and providing specialized solutions for customers needs. We've been searching for high quality microphones for some time, partly because we felt that the market in Israel needs alternatives to the brands already established here, says Asaf Tzur, import manager. DPA was our first choice, since it not only covers live and theatrical performances, it can also provide us with vast solutions for recording applications, which we lacked altogether. We are very optimistic that the brand will be a success in Israel due to its leading reputation and the wide range of products for various applications. Adds DPA director Morten Stove, "We are happy to welcome A B Noam Electronics to the family and look forward to servicing that part of the planet with DPA Microphones."

DPA Microphones has joined forces with Rycote to develop the DPA 4017-R Shotgun/Rycote Windshield Solution. The new strong suspension and windshield solution has been designed specifically to take the DPA 4017 shotgun mics compact size and light weight into consideration. The DPA 4017-R consists of the 4017 shotgun mic with XLR cable and DPA windscreen; the distinctive Rycote Windshield 2 measuring just 210mm; the Rycote fur windjammer; Rycote suspension mount in vibrant red and Rycote XLR holder. This kit provides everything an outside broadcaster, journalist or location film maker could need for clear, directional sound, regardless of the weather and environmental conditions. DPA and Rycote share the same philosophy and it has been a great pleasure to work on a project with them, says Rycotes managing director Vivienne Dyer. From conception to fruition it has taken us just three months and DPA has always responded immediately to our requests for information or feedback. DPA know what they want and we are so pleased that we have been able to fulfill their needs. The collaboration has been a great success that will ultimately benefit both companies. We respect DPA and everything that they stand for and look forward to working with them closely in the future. Adds DPA director Morten Stove, "We were looking for a good way to protect our 4017 shotgun microphone from wind and rain, and contacted Rycote to see if they were interested in making a dedicated shield. Rycote has been wonderfully professional to work with and we look forward to a fruitful business relationship. We are certain that this is a wind-wind solution."

Meyer Sounds New JM-1P Arrayable Loudspeaker Meyer Sounds New JM-1P Arrayable Loudspeaker
08:33 PM
Meyer Sounds New JM-1P Arrayable Loudspeaker Combines Powerful Performance with Precise, Scalable Horizontal Coverage Meyer Sound has introduced the JM-1P arrayable loudspeaker, a self-powered high-Q system designed to integrate seamlessly in tight-packed clusters where horizontal coverage must be predictably scaled to exacting requirements. Distinguished by its precisely defined 20-degree horizontal by 60-degree vertical pattern, the JM-1P delivers controlled coverage while minimizing reverberation in large or reflective acoustical environments. With a remarkably consistent polar response and trapezoidal enclosure patented by Meyer Sound, the JM-1P delivers optimum performance in tight-packed arrays providing horizontal coverage that is proportional to the number of units deployed. Single JM-1P cabinets can be used as a point-source system in either horizontal or vertical orientations. The JM-1P is suited to critical quality applications including theatres, houses of worship, theme parks, stadiums, concert halls, and nightclubs. In touring sound, it offers flexible solutions for center- and side-fill systems. Meyer Sounds experience in point-source systems dates back to 1980 when John Meyer, CEO of Meyer Sound, patented the trapezoidal cabinet shape with the release of the UPA loudspeaker. The JM-1P features a Meyer Sounds patented REM ribbon emulation manifold technology, which results in low distortion and a tight pattern control, while a constant-Q horn ensures a uniform response throughout the coverage area. The JM-1Ps exceptional power-to-size ratio and flexible Quickfly rigging options allow for easy mounting and flying in a variety of applications. Captive sliding rigging links on the front and back of the cabinet facilitate easy arraying, and optional pickup and array plates are available for flying horizontal arrays of up to five JM-1P cabinets. A top grid receives links and pins directly from the JM-1P cabinet and allows for flown vertical arrays of up to four cabinets. The JM-1P gives sound designers the flexibility to accurately tailor coverage in highly reverberant or oddly shaped environments, notes John Meyer. You can conform your horizontal coverage to fit the room, so you maintain a smooth response at all seats while avoiding echoes or excessive reverberation. The JM-1Ps precise high-frequency section is driven by a 4-inch diaphragm compression driver, complemented by a 15-inch, long-excursion cone transducer for the low-mid section. Power is supplied by a dual-channel class AB/H amplifier with a total power output of 1275 W (2550 W peak), while onboard processing includes electronic crossover, comprehensive driver protection, and correction filters for flat frequency and phase responses. Performance of the JM-1P is exemplary in all respects, with a wide operating frequency range of 55 Hz to 18 kHz, and a maximum peak SPL of 136 dB (at 1 m). The optional RMS remote monitoring system allows comprehensive monitoring of system parameters on a Windows-based computer. The JM-1P can be controlled with the Galileo digital loudspeaker management system and presets for JM-1P arrays will be available to provide mid-bass and bass management. Designed and manufactured at Meyer Sound headquarters in Berkeley, Calif., the JM-1P arrayable loudspeaker will begin shipping in August 2009.

The Sounds of Summer Ring Out with Meyer Sound Self-Powered Line Array Loudspeakers All across the northern hemisphere, the busy summer music season is in full swing, with an abundance of tours and festivals making Meyer Sound their first choice for supplying high-fidelity sound at events ranging from in-the-round concerts to massive outdoor festivals; from North America to Europe and Asia; and from soulful jazz music and heavy metal to the King of Pop. With the power, consistency, and reliability proven to withstand even the most extreme atmospheric conditions, Meyer Sounds self-powered systems are a mainstay on the summer festival circuit year after year. Perennial European favorites have long relied on Meyer Sound loudspeakers, including the famed Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Germanys Moers, Sziget in Hungary, and a multitude of other outdoor festivals in Norway, Sweden, Spain and the UK. In Eastern Europe, Slovenias Festival Novo Mesto is supplying Meyer Sound systems for a range of musical celebrations including Festival Lent and Rock Otocec, while To Breathe as One 2009 Song and Dance Celebration will attract a massive crowd to Tallinn, Estonia, with reinforcement provided by local sound company Eventech. Across America, the festival scene also promises to deliver topnotch listening experience for visitors from near and far, with Meyer Sound systems powering stages at Michigans Rothbury Festival (Thunder Audio), Colorados Mile High Festival (Dowlen Sound), and Wisconsins Summerfest (Clearwing Productions). At MX Beat in Guadalajara, Mexico City-based CREA provided a MILO line array loudspeaker system, which delivered high SPL throughout the performances of Cat Power, Mystery Jets, and Sebastian Tellier, despite the unpredictable weather. Temperatures in Guadalajara could fluctuate between zero and 37 degrees Celsius (32 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit), says Saul Rodriguez, production manager of MX Beat. Meyer Sound gear was really the only choice for such demanding conditions. A growing number of festivals in Asia are turning to Meyer Sound systems this year. In Bangalore, India, the 24x7 Rockathon is being considered for an entry into the Limca Book of Records for the longest continuous musical concert and live webcast, with 50 bands playing for four days with reinforcement from a Meyer Sound system provided by Reynolds Sound and Lighting Services. We had three teams working in shifts while the system delivered diligently 24 hours a day without a glitch, says Felix Remedios of Reynolds Sound and Lighting Services. It was an impressive showcase of the reliability of Meyer Sound equipment. In the touring world, Meyer Sound MILO line array loudspeaker remains a de facto standard among the largest and highest-profile tours. Metallica, the grand masters of metal are rocking arenas across Europe with a MILO line array loudspeaker system provided by Thunder Audio. Britney Spears and Andr Rieu are each taking a MILO system on tour, provided by Montreal-based Solotech. The Bay Areas ProMedia/UltraSound chose Meyer Sound systems for Dave Matthews Band and The Dead, while East Rutherford, NJ-based Masque Sound is supplying the Celtic Woman tour across the US. In the UK, Capital Sounds MILO rig is following Il Divos world tour across several continents, and Canegreens Meyer Sound systems have been booked solid for tours with Paul Weller, The Enemy, and Ray LaMontagne. In July, all eyes will be on Michael Jacksons stage return at O2 Arena, with a massive Meyer Sound system provided by Major Tom.
City Winery Selects Meyer Sound Melodie Line Arrays City Winery Selects Meyer Sound Melodie Line Arrays
08:33 PM
City Winery Selects Meyer Sound Melodie Line Arrays for a New World Entertainment Experience in New York City City Winery has emerged as a unique feast for the senses since its debut in Manhattans highly selective SoHo district in December 2008. A 21,000-square-foot epicenter combining winemaking, gourmet dining, and live music, City Winery stands out from the crowded culinary scene with a world-class music venue reinforced by the award-winning Melodie line array loudspeaker system from Meyer Sound. City Winery Founder and CEO Michael Dorf specified the Melodie after successfully employing Meyer Sound systems in the famed Knitting Factory live venues that he formerly owned and operated. Meyer Sound is the best, period, Dorf says. At City Winery, were using the definitive glassware, the most exclusive cheeses‹were only working with the elite. As a home for international acts, when you let them know you have a Meyer Sound system, you never have anyone say, ŒI have to bring my own. Were a Meyer venue, and theres nothing to improve on. A warm, open, and airy space, City Winery hangs four Melodie line array loudspeakers on both sides of the stage, yielding uncommonly rewarding results. The Melodie has exactly what we were looking for: It doesnt blow away the people in the front, and it still can reach to people 75 feet back, says Dorf. The vocal clarity is precise, deep, rich, and it sounds very true. For instrumentation we get a full, rich sound‹anything plugged in is coming out very accurately. The system was designed by Ed Greer, general manager of operations at City Winery, in collaboration with Meyer Sound Tech Support, and installed by Brooklyn, NY-based Music First Productions. The Melodie-based solution incorporates two Meyer Sound UPQ-1P wide coverage loudspeakers which anchor left and right fills for the far sides of the wide room, while frontfill is provided by three M1D-SM loudspeakers, a version of the M1D line array loudspeaker with alternate end plates for single-mount configurations with the M1D-MUB single mount U-bracket. The design also includes two 600-HP subwoofers, four UM-1P stage monitors, eight MM-4XP self-powered miniature loudspeakers and a Galileo loudspeaker management system. Together, the components have created a compelling sonic experience for artists such as Joan Osborne, Suzanne Vega, Lenny Kaye, Boz Scaggs, Philip Glass, Rufus Wainwright, and many more. To have many of these performers come in and say, ŒThis is one of the greatest musical performance rooms that Ive played in for many years is a very high compliment, Dorf reflects. City Winery spent a lot of time thinking about both the audience and the artist experience. Weve nailed it with Meyer Sound.

Launching a dedicated operation in the US comes during a period of huge development for the company, particularly in light of the rapid uptake of the XL8 and PRO6 digital systems. In such a developing market, offering superior support and backup is paramount to the brands’ ongoing growth and success across North America.
TC Electronic announces that its Nova Drive pedal is now shipping TC Electronic announces that its Nova Drive pedal is now shipping
08:33 PM
Nova Drive is TC Electronic's incredible new programmable analog overdrive and distortion pedal. It features the same awesome analog drive circuit as the acclaimed Nova System and has full digital control. Nova Drive is therefore the ultimate distortion and overdrive pedal, offering the best of both worlds: sonic excellence combined with total control. On top of the superb tone, Nova Drive has excellent preset and control options that ensure guitarists don't have to rebuild their set-ups from scratch to use it. The pedal also comes packed with 18 killer sounding factory presets, meaning that guitarists will be ready to rock in no time at all. Nova Drive features two totally separate overdrive and distortion circuits that can be used separately or combined to offer a wealth of classic, spine-tingling, old school sounds. These are partnered with total digital control that enables guitarists to store up to 18 of their favorite sounds and to integrate Nova Drive into their set-ups and tailor their sound with total precision. The dedicated distortion section offers a wide range of tones, from subtle, punchy driving distortion to screaming fuzz. And for added control it also features a 2-band EQ section for precise shaping of distorted sounds. Nova Drive's distortion character is best typified as raw but, like the overdrive section, it preserves the original character of the sound. The overdrive section delivers everything from clean boost with a little extra 'oomph' through Bluesy sting and smooth tube-like break-up, to heavy, all-out crunch. It is the perfect place to find added sustain for existing sounds and to supercharge any tone into classic territory. With Nova Drive, guitarists finally have a place to create, store and recall all the distorted and overdriven sounds they could ever need.

EAW Products Chosen for British Columbia's Queen Charlotte Lodge EAW Products Chosen for British Columbia's Queen Charlotte Lodge
08:33 AM
The ultimate Canadian sport fishing resort installs EAW VR Series and SMS Series speakers Whitinsville, MA, USA, June 25, 2009 - The waters off the northwest coast of British Columbia are deep, cool and clear - the perfect conditions for salmon and halibut - and the Queen Charlotte Lodge, at the north end of the Queen Charlotte Islands, is perfectly situated to be a fisherman's dream come true. Recently, the Lodge decided to update its sound system, and Vancouver-based installers/integrators Sapphire Sound turned to the reliable and innovative engineering of EAW, a world leader in audio system technology. The main building was fitted with an SMS1990 Surface Mount Loudspeaker, two SMS3 Surface Mount Loudspeaker systems, a weather-resistant SMS4 Surface Mount Loudspeaker system, two VR62 Compact Full-Range Loudspeakers, a VR61 Compact Full-Range Loudspeaker enclosure with a single 6-inch LF driver, two PH30 Paging Horns, an SB48 Very Compact Subwoofer and three CAZ Series amplifiers. The Totem House, which features a bar and restaurant as well as guest suites, had installed one PH30, six SMS4's and six CIS400 Ceiling Loudspeakers. The private Charlotte House residence now has six SMS4's and two PH30's. The Queen Charlotte Lodge is accessible only by boat or helicopter. The paging system takes on added importance, as it is fairly common to have to call guests across the island to remind them that their ride is ready to depart. "The system is running background music most of the time, so it has to be full-range and smooth," explains John Powell, Project Manager on the installation for Sapphire Sound. "But when the lodge needs to page people to let them know their helicopter is about to take off, the system has to be loud and clear without being piercing or grating. The PH30 is especially good at that." Powell also cited the ease of installation of the SMS Series speakers, noting that the log wall construction of the Lodge's buildings could have made that a challenge. "The SMS was corner-mounted and we ran the wiring in between the logs," he says. "Everything blended in nicely." Dave Raneses, EAW Commercial Product Manager describes how EAW is a leader in its field because of its engineering, and the VR62's and VR61 used in the bar area is a perfect example. "The rotatable horn design feature of both enclosures made them the best choice for this application," he explains. "Because of space considerations, these boxes had to be mounted horizontally rather than vertically, which is their usual orientation. But because the rotatable horn can be adjusted up to 90 degrees left or right, the horizontal mounting was not a problem, as the horns were rotated to optimize directivity control. They didn't have to trade off sound quality for space." The EAW SMS1990 was positioned near the plasma display screens in common areas of the Lodge such as the lobby and breakfast room. "What's unique about the engineering of the SMS1990 is that its coverage pattern is a true 90-by-90-degrees and it's that way throughout its entire frequency spectrum," notes Raneses. "The need in these gathering spaces was for a high level of intelligibility, and the SMS1990 delivers that by design."

09:33 PM
Meyer Sound MILO and SF Opera Set Record Attendance with Tosca Simulcast at AT&T Ballpark Beer, hotdogs, and Puccini? Cultural worlds collided in the best way possible when Opera at the Ballpark returned to AT&T Park on June 5th with a free simulcast of Tosca, setting a new ballpark attendance record for San Francisco Opera with an estimated 27,000 viewers. For its fourth simulcast, Bay Area rental house Pro Media / UltraSound turned to Meyer Sound products for the reliability, clarity, and power required to knock the job out of the proverbial park (and literal home to the San Francisco Giants baseball team). The unique task of broadcasting a live performance from the stage of the War Memorial Opera House to a crowded outdoor venue was no easy feat, but David Bowers of Pro Media / UltraSound felt that the decision to go with a Meyer Sound system was a relatively simple one: "It's just the way it is. There's nothing that works better for opera. It's absolutely, purely linear. It predicts well, and there's very low distortion." The PA system included 28 MILO line array loudspeakers (two arrays of 14 each), along with eight legacy MSL-2A loudspeakers, eight M3D-Sub directional subwoofers, a Galileo loudspeaker management system, and a SIM 3 audio analyzer for system tuning. Pulling off opera without a hitch on the Giants' home field was a tall order, and knowing what works was of the highest importance when over 20,000 attendees expected an Italian tragedy by 8:00 pm sharp. "We showed up at 1:00 pm to load in yesterday," said Bowers on the day of the show. "By 7:00 pm last night, we were doing our first pass for optimization. It was so expeditious. That's a credit to self-powered systemsthey're very easy to rig." Bowers, who has a wealth of experience when it comes to mixing opera and classical music, recognizes the benefits of choosing Meyer Sound for this project. "We love the M3D subwoofer for the opera," said Bowers. "It's the most musical-sounding sub for opera and classical music. We want the sound system to be invisible, even if the stage is 400 feet away from the audience. M3D-Sub, MILO, and Meyer allow us to do that." A fan of our pristine sound and reliable results, Bowers isnt the only Meyer Sound enthusiast. I am overwhelmed and gratified by the Bay Areas enthusiastic response to our third simulcast of live opera to AT&T Park, commented Opera General Director David Gockley. Our presentation of Tosca onto the scoreboard in high def transmission was fantastic and was matched by the superior sound quality under the careful guidance of Meyer Sound , ProMedia Ultra Sound and the SF Opera Sound Dept. From the outfield and the infield to stadium seating, more than 27,000 guests enjoyed this growing San Francisco tradition of Opera at the Ballpark. It truly was a grand night for singing! In the case of an event that involves arias and garlic fries, it's safe to say that this was no ordinary evening at the ballpark. Aside from the obvious successes of the evening (great sound, beautiful music, and a happy audience), Bowers found amusement in the subtleties that made the job so unusual, and so enjoyable: "The clean-up was much easier than when Kenny Chesney played here." Now that is music to our ears.
The Dead Come Alive with Meyer Sound The Dead Come Alive with Meyer Sound
09:33 PM
More than 45 years after their first concert, The Dead (previously the Grateful Dead) continued to set the highest sonic standards on their 22-show, 17-city tour, the band's first tour in more than five years. Known for their unyielding requirement for low-distortion sound, The Dead's new tour was again supported by a Meyer Sound MILO line array loudspeaker system supplied by Bay Area associates Pro Media/UltraSound. The system, designed to provide up to 360-degree coverage for the tour's multiple arena dates, included main left and right arrays of 16 MILO and two MILO 120 line array loudspeakers each. Left and right side arrays of ten MILO and two MILO 120 loudspeakers each were augmented by identical arrays covering far left and far right areas, for a total of 72 MILO and 12 MILO 120 loudspeakers in all. The rear areas were served by left and right arrays of 12 MICA line array loudspeakers each. Low frequencies were ably handled by 16 700-HP subwoofers, with eight each flown below the main MILO arrays. An additional nine M3D-Sub directional subwoofers were groundstacked at the stage. Left and right frontfills of three CQ-1 loudspeakers each and a pair of UPJ-1P VariO loudspeakers for centerfill completed the setup. "The Meyer Sound system provided us with a consistent, clean, and powerful image across a wide range of venues," remarked FOH Engineer Derek Featherstone, who used a pair of HD-1 audio monitors at the mix position. "Even with more than 90 open microphones on the stage, we had very little leakage back onto the PA system." Few bands have played a larger role in the evolution of today's concert sound than The Dead. The band was among the first users of Meyer Sound systems, and Meyer Sound founder John Meyer credits the group's high standards with inspiring his ongoing quest for audio excellence.

Historic venue gets a sonic upgrade with EAW KF, SBX, LS, JF and LA Series products designed in a unique two-set configuration for versatile performance Whitinsville, MA, USA, June 24, 2009 - Mallorca (Majorca), the largest of Spain's Balearic Islands, is home to its capital Palma's Teatre Principal ("Principal Theater"), a venue dating all the way back to the 1600s. Through the years, it has seen a number of alterations, renovations and reconstructions, and in 2001, work began on a comprehensive project to bring Teatre Principal into the 21st century. Crucial to the theater's update would be a cutting-edge sound system, holding up to the rigors and demands of a wide variety of current theatrical productions and musical events. Fernando Garca Carrin, the head of the A/V Department of Madrid-based installer Chemtrol's Divisin Teatro (theater division), selected a wide range of EAW products as the system's loudspeaker and monitor components. Chemtrol recently installed the full system, with the support of EAW's Spanish representative Pro3 & Co, S.L. To determine the necessary sound system components, Pro3's Engineering Department, headed by Victor Prez Cejas, conducted a comprehensive acoustic simulation of the theater. Because of the venue's historic nature, it was important to integrate the system into the architecture as smoothly as possible. The theater is laid out in a horseshoe design, typical of venues built in the 17th century. Also, the venue hosts a number of different events and performers; a variety of different sounds, from a single spoken voice to a booming orchestra, would need sound system solutions tailored toward them. Taking this into account, Chemtrol opted to install what could be considered two separate sets of loudspeaker components. The first is a fixed installation, which itself can cover most of the theater. The second is a more mobile, modular/configurable system, adaptable for concerts and louder events that need extra reinforcement. The first set of components includes EAW LS832 Line Source Loudspeakers in each of the hall's balcony levels (10 loudspeakers in total) and four EAW SBX220 Compact Subwoofers, installed in the orchestra pit. The second, more adaptable set of components includes 12 KF730 Compact Line Array Modules, which are flown from the proscenium arch, allowing for a straightforward stereo configuration or a three-channel L-C-R array. To maintain uniform coverage throughout the venue, four EAW JF60z Compact Full-Range Loudspeakers were installed as stage frontfills, covering the theater's first few rows. For stage monitoring, the system is rounded out by four EAW LA212 and four LA215 Compact Full-Range Loudspeaker/Monitors with LAKE processing and Lab.gruppen amplification. "EAW products offered us exactly what we needed for this project," stated Carrin. "We needed to be able to configure this system for a wide variety of applications and sounds, all while maintaining coverage in a challenging space and making sure the loudspeakers keep a low profile visually. And of course sound quality is paramount. EAW delivered all these things and more."

Audio-technica unveils atcs-60 ir conference system Audio-technica unveils atcs-60 ir conference system
07:33 PM
Company offers contractors and system integrators a flexible, portable wireless infrared system with easy setup, intuitive operation and unmatched security INFOCOMM, ORLANDO, FL, June 17, 2009 Audio-Technica, a leading innovator in transducer technology for over 45 years, expands its Engineered Sound range of meeting/conference room offerings with the ATCS-60 IR (infrared) Conference System. The ATCS-60 is a fully self-contained wireless distributed audio system using infrared communications technology, designed for corporate, government and educational applications. The system offers many impressive and practical features, providing ease of setup and operation, and eliminating the need for microphone wiring and ceiling speakers. The ATCS-60 IR Conference System offers all the advantages of infrared communication including security, high noise immunity and low power requirements, to name a few and features wireless microphone units (ATCS-M60). As a result, it offers more flexibility, with freedom to easily change microphone locations and system configurations. Even for a conference scenario of over 100 participants, the setup takes far less time than other conference systems. The system also features sophisticated functions such as simultaneous interpretation for one native language and up to three foreign languages; automatic camera tracking to follow the switching of microphones; optional minutes recording; along with other features that help improve conference efficiency. The ATCS-60 system can also be fully portable. The ATCS-60s infrared technology offers secure communication. Since the infrared signal stays within the room, a meeting cannot be picked up or intercepted elsewhere, which can often be an issue with conventional RF systems. The ATCS-60 system consists of the following components: ATCS-M60 Microphone Unit (base unit) ATCS-60MIC Dedicated standard-length Gooseneck Microphone ATCS-A60 IR Transmitter/Receiver Unit ATCS-C60 Master Control Unit ATCS-D60 Distributor (splitter) ATCS-B60 Battery charger ATCS-C60MAG Software Setup of the ATCS-60 IR Conference System is simple and intuitive: the applicable number of ATCS-A60 IR Transmitter/Receiver Units (aka Transponders) are placed on the rooms ceiling space (or flown/elevated for full portability), and connected back to the master control unit with 75 ohm coaxial cable. Each ATCS-M60 Microphone Unit, with dedicated ATCS-60MIC microphone, is set on the conference table (one for each participant) and assigned a discrete address; beyond that, its virtually plug-and-play. Each ATCS-M60 Microphone Unit features a built-in dedicated loudspeaker, which will return the entire systems audio (minus that conference member, therefore preventing feedback and echo). The system operates in two modes, manual and automatic, allowing for a number of different meeting styles and levels of formality. In manual mode, which works like a discussion system (commonly used with a more formal approach to corporate meetings), each meeting member pushes a button to request to speak, and each request is recognized by the meetings chairman. In manual mode, the systems ATCS-C60 Master Control Unit controls whether requests to speak are accepted in first-in-first-out or last-in-first-out order. This mode accepts up to 150 microphone units. In automatic mode, which accepts up to 50 microphone units, all channels run through a smart mixer, which turns each microphone on and off depending on whether or not that meeting member is speaking. The mixer can be set (via the ATCS-C60 Master Control Unit) so that from one to five people can talk simultaneously. The ATCS-A60 IR Transmitter/Receiver Unit has an oblong 120-degree coverage pattern. The ATCS-D60 Distributor acts as a splitter, expanding the Master Control Units four IR Transmitter/Receiver Unit connections so that up to 16 ATCS-A60 units can be placed on a rooms ceiling space, depending on necessity presented by room size and shape. The systems included ATCS-C60MAG software allows users to monitor and control the system using a computer screen with a graphical interface patterned after the room layout. An advanced version of the software can record meetings for electronic minute-taking. The ATCS-M60 Microphone Units can run on battery power (LI240 Lithium ion battery, charged with ATCS-B60 Battery Charger) or via AC power with a standard adapter. Finally, the Master Control Unit features an RS-232C connecting port, for control via third-party units by AMX, Crestron and others. Greg Pinto, Audio-Technica VP of Marketing, states, The addition of the ATCS-60 system to our extensive range of contractor and system integrator products, represents Audio-Technicas total commitment to providing install-sound solutions. The new infrared conference system joins A-Ts hard-wired microphones, RF systems and the ultra wideband SpectraPulse wireless microphone system, offering engineers, sound contractors and installers a complete range of conference system options.
Denon professional offers dn-c620 and dn-c640 cd players Denon professional offers dn-c620 and dn-c640 cd players
07:33 PM
INFOCOMM, ORLANDO, FL, June 17, 2009 Denon Professional is showing the DN-C620 CD Player and the DN-C640 Slot-in Network CD Player at InfoComm 09. Both units play a variety of file formats, and the DN-C640 adds network connectivity and data DVD playback, in addition to other advanced features. Denon Professional DN-C620 CD Player: Housed in a 1-rackspace enclosure, the DN-C620 offers contractors and system integrators a versatile CD player at an extremely cost-effective price point. The DN-C620 is compatible with standard audio data file formats including CD-DA (.cda) and MP3, allowing for up to 20 hours of audio playback from a single CD, CD-R or CD-RW, making it well suited to serve as a continuous audio playback device for houses of worship, health clubs, restaurants, and various broadcast applications. The player features intuitive front panel control, which allows customizable program playlists and output of ID3 or CD-TEXT Title, Artist, and Album information via RS-232-C. Additionally, standard 25-pin Contact Closure (GPIO) and 9-pin RS-232-C Control connections are included. The RS-232-C remote capability provides added flexibility and allows the DN-C620 to be controlled from third party industry leaders like AMX and Crestron. The DN-C620 is now available with a U.S. MSRP of $699.99. Denon Professional DN-C640 Slot-in Network CD Player: Also housed in a 1-rackspace enclosure, the DN-C640 offers tremendous playback format options utilizing largely untapped system resources found in many of todays standard audio, network and computing devices. Elevated from simple audio disc player, the unit enables audio data-file playback from both CD and DVD discs and easy access to network playback capabilities. It is well suited to serving as a fully networked audio playback control center. The DN-C640 is compatible with most standard audio data file formats including CDDA (.cda), WAV (.wav), MP3, MPG and Windows Media Audio (.wma), allowing for up to 20 hours of playback from a single CD. Additionally, the unit breaks new ground by reading these files directly from a data DVD, with greatly enhanced storage, thus increasing continuous single-disc playback to nearly 6 days of uninterrupted audio. For those requiring the fidelity of uncompressed WAV audio files, this allows a new, convenient disc playback unrestrained by the normal 80-minute CD-R time limit. As an added benefit, various file types may be combined on the same disc to accommodate different source formats of program material. The DN-C640 incorporates the latest in network integration for streaming audio playback from personal computers, servers or other network resources. This affords nearly endless file storage and continuous playback while allowing direct access to files from the units front panel/remote or an internal web-based GUI complete with transport controls and customizable program playlists (can output CD-TEXT Title, Artist, and Album via RS-232), accessible from any web-enabled computer on the network. The ability to stream any of the above file formats from a network source allows the broadcast station to store files, like Public Service Announcements (PSAs) or local advertisements, on a PC and have instant access to them without having to burn optical media. The web-based GUI also provides a visual interface for programming files to play from a specified directory. Those programs can be downloaded to a PC in a simple file format for later use. This is perfect for a station that needs to recall previous shows/programs or for a stations production department that wants to recall a set of sound effects. Additionally, standard 25-pin Contact Closure (GPIO) and 9-pin RS-232-C Control connections are included. The DN-C640 is currently available with a U.S. MSRP of $999.99.

HD Pro Audio Provides New Digidesign VENUE SC48 ...... HD Pro Audio Provides New Digidesign VENUE SC48 ......

HD Pro Audio Provides New Digidesign VENUE SC48 for Paloma Faith Debut Single Gig at the BBC A day after its UK launch, the new Digidesign VENUE SC48 was in use on a Sam Kruger production at BBC Maida Vale Studio 3, with PA provided by Capital Sound. The show was arranged by the BBC for Paloma Faith to perform her new single 'Stone Cold Sober', a BBC record of the week, and other tracks from her forthcoming debut album 'Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful'. The event was recorded for Radio 2 Introduces... Paloma Faith, part of Dermot O'Leary's show due to be aired on Saturday 20 June. On FOH was engineer Peter Whitelaw, The show was the first to fully showcase the complexity and dynamic diversity of Palomas song writing. With 15 people on stage, including brass, strings, and backing vocals, I knew I needed a dynamic and comprehensive console. The Profile would have been my normal choice, as I'm a big fan of it, but with the launch of the SC48 I was keen to get my hands on the new console and test it out. With its launch being the night before, we got it just in time for the show thanks to Andy Huffer and HD Pro Audio. With all 48 channels being used and every bit of DSP maxed out (can't get enough of the Eventide plug-ins). I well and truly tested it out. It worked like a familiar friend with some very useful enhancements. Being able to keep a finger on Palomas lead vocal via the Center Flex Channel, which provides immediate access to any key input without having to go through fader layers, was comforting as I flipped through the 4 banks. The new LED colour coded aux / EQ / dynamics section is another very welcome improvement The VCA spill feature looks promising and useful as I become more familiar with the console. Its definitely a desk I'm looking forward to using and exploring more again on Paloma; her schedule is exploding so the tiny foot print and truck space it takes up are another great asset, and I'm thinking about using it on Sophie Ellis Bextor in the coming months. Sam Kruger commented From my point of view the SC48 means that even though this is a new artist, I have an affordable option that can deal with the complexities of such a production at an early stage in her career, rather than having to compromise with whatever we're given. Paloma is a rising star and, thanks to this desk, we can showcase her at the level of much bigger, more expensive dates. We plan to carry one for all of her key shows and festivals over the coming months; as the artist grows this element of the production doesn't need to change to grow with her as its already up to the highest standard.

EASE Data for 13 Meyer Sound Products Now Available EASE Data for 13 Meyer Sound Products Now Available
11:16 AM
EASE Users Can Now Evaluate Meyer Sound Products More Accurately BERKELEY, Calif., June 2, 2009 Meyer Sound today announced the availability of high-resolution measurement data for 13 of its most popular loudspeakers in the GLL (Generic Loudspeaker Library) format, enabling users of EASE design and simulation software to model the interaction of Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeaker systems with the acoustics of rooms. With the release of EASE 4.3, the software can now import and view(*) Meyer Sounds one-degree measurement data in the GLL format which is considerably higher resolution than the EASE SPK file format used by previous versions of EASE, resulting in more precise predictions. The following product GLL files are now available for download from Meyer Sounds website: MILO (60, 90, 120), MICA, Melodie, 700-HP, 600-HP, 500-HP, UPQ-1P/2P, UPJ-1P, UPJunior and SB-3F. To register and download any of these files, please visit: http://www.meyersound.com/forms/ease_form.php. As additional product data becomes available the page will be updated, and registered users will be informed via email. Meyer Sounds patented MAPP Online Pro acoustical prediction program will continue to be the preferred prediction tool, and provide the most accurate reference for modeling the interaction of Meyer Sound loudspeakers. The utility of acoustical prediction programs depends on several factors, including the accuracy of the measurement data used to model the individual loudspeakers, the consistency of the product from cabinet to cabinet, and finally on the quality of the algorithms used to process that data, said Meyer Sound CEO John Meyer. While EASE is designed to incorporate articulation data and room acoustics information, MAPP is designed to facilitate aligning loudspeaker systems with the highest level of accuracy, and therefore took care to exclude room data. With its ability to incorporate higher-resolution GLL data, EASE has become a much more useful platform for accurate system modeling, enabling its users to evaluate Meyer Sound loudspeaker performance simulations with a good degree of confidence. We are pleased to be working with the EASE team to provide users with more accurate and useful predictions, added Meyer, and give customers the tools they need to effectively evaluate and specify Meyer Sound loudspeaker systems. For years, John Meyer and I have pushed to advance technology that would empower system designers with prediction tools offering high accuracy, interoperability, and advanced functionality, said Dr. Wolfgang Ahnert, the scientist behind the EASE program. We are both pleased to witness the industrys widespread adoption of acoustical simulations, and look forward to seeing system designers and the audio education community benefit from EASEs compatibility with Meyer Sound data. Meyer Sound pioneered the use of high-resolution complex data in creating loudspeaker models with its MAPP Online acoustical prediction software, a patented method of providing acoustical response predictions in an Internet-enabled client-server system, offering significant advantages over self-contained programs running entirely on a user's machine. With a registered user base that has more than doubled in the past eight months, MAPP Online Pro development and upgrade efforts continue to be a top priority for Meyer Sounds software development team. The EASE software program was created by Acoustic Design Ahnert, and is developed and supported by the Ahnert Feistel Media Group of Berlin, Germany.

EAW Capitalizes on Its Engineering and Manufacturing Resources..... EAW Capitalizes on Its Engineering and Manufacturing Resources.....
11:16 AM
EAW Capitalizes on Its Engineering and Manufacturing Resources in Whitinsville for Custom Products Employed in High-Profile System Installs From the Eagles to the Orioles, EAW's Strategic Engineering Team has created custom solutions for applications ranging from national theme parks to major-league baseball parks Custom products address the complexities of modern large-scale, high-profile systems installs, resolving issues for the clients and leading to new products that better serve the industry as a whole Whitinsville, MA, USA, Jun 8, 2009 - When Coffeen Fricke and Associates, Inc. (www.cfaconsulting.com) developed a complex specification for the Lincoln Financial Field (home of the Philadelphia Eagles) audio system, they went to several manufacturers of sound technology seeking a solution. EAW was chosen, as they could provide that solution and manufacture the product to exacting specifications. At the EAW Strategic Engineering Group's offices in Whitinsville, Massachusetts, Kenton Forsythe, EAW's co-founder/Vice President, Strategic Engineering; Jeff Rocha, Senior Director of Engineering; Joe Fustolo, Director of EAW's Applications Support Group; and Janet Yacino, who supervises the Build-To-Order (BTO) projects, constitute a brain trust that continuously develops customized solutions for a wide range of applications and users. In the process, those solutions often end up turning into products that benefit the broader industry. A perfect example is the work EAW's Strategic Engineering Group did for the Eagles stadium sound system, which needed sound coverage of very specific sections of the venue with enclosures that would also deflect weather in a particular manner, so that fans would get great sound without getting wet. The Group took the concept from an existing EAW line-source speaker array, of the type used commonly in houses of worship on columns to project sound without interfering with sight lines, and adapted it for horizontal mounting. Not only did the custom solution work brilliantly, but additionally a version of the design is under consideration to become a standard product in EAW's speaker systems line, providing the benefit of the Group's collective innovation to other users. Another ongoing custom engineering project involves developing a compact, high output design with exceptional pattern control that, when completed, will allow more targeted placement of better-sounding boxes for venues such as theme parks where architectural considerations become paramount. In another example, a customized version of EAW's full-range AX 364 Arrayable Install Loudspeaker, modified to fire simultaneously forward and down, was developed for the newly opened New York Mets ballpark Citi Field. Working closely with systems consultants WJHW of Dallas, Texas, and integrator TSI Global Companies, LLC, several of these precisely modified enclosures were installed at the clubhouse level, one of the most challenging spaces in a stadium of this design, with a pair of 10-inch woofers aimed downward to cancel out low-frequency buildup in an architectural bass trap. Other solutions have been developed for venues including the Red Sox's Fenway Park in Boston and the Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. In fact, this kind of customized-solution approach to engineering has already led to elegantly converged market and engineering-driven breakthroughs in sound systems design by EAW. "It's a key aspect of our product development," says Forsythe. "A significant portion of EAW's product ranges come from specialized work our engineering and manufacturing divisions have developed to provide specific solutions to our customers. These 'solutions' have then become products within the EAW line." Systems installations are becoming more complex as venues become more competitive and advances in technology allow for more complicated systems designs, but Forsythe says the increase in the amount of custom work that the Strategic Engineering Group has been doing is driven as much by the fact that EAW has such a broad range of products upon which custom solutions can be based. "We have a pretty broad scope of product, so we have a lot of things that would address a wide range of challenges," he explains. But engineering is just one piece of the customization process. Manufacturing resources also need to be in place to execute the design. The Baltimore Orioles' Oriole Park at Camden Yards recently benefited from the installation of a brand new distributed sound reinforcement system, featuring nearly 300 loudspeakers from EAW. The installation, completed in time for the Orioles' April 6th season opener against the New York Yankees, was finished in a highly accelerated time period of three months, which is approximately half the amount of time a system of this magnitude would take to install under normal conditions. To meet these stringent deadlines, EAW drew on the resources at its Whitinsville, Massachusetts R&D/manufacturing facility to supply the complete loudspeaker inventory requested for the installation. In addition to accelerating the manufacturing process to meet the deadline, a customized weatherproof system was developed for the specific requirements of this job, all within the strict delivery requirements. Customer interface is crucial in this custom design process. The Applications Support Group evaluates new requests as they come in, reviewing which existing EAW products might form the basis of a solution. Engineering will develop the concept further and create prototypes if required. The BTO group will oversee completion of the custom solution. These custom solutions not only address the issues that clients want solved but also deepen the bond between EAW and its customers. "They love it because they've got an ownership interest in the idea," says Forsythe. "We all work together to help that customer solve their problem, and when we turn the system on and they finally hear the results of everyone's efforts, it's a very rewarding experience."
Radiant Church Chooses Allen & Heath iLive Radiant Church Chooses Allen & Heath iLive
11:16 AM
Radiant Church Chooses Allen & Heath iLive as Key Component in Expansion, Training Unique application of iLive's EtherSound interface allows the Radiant Church to train volunteer engineers by mixing pre-recorded rehearsals. When Radiant Church in Colorado Springs decided to upgrade their mixing console, Worship & Media Pastor Dustin Guthrie was charged with making sure the church got the most out of its investment. For the main campus, Rutledge recommended the Allen & Heath iLive-144. The system accepts 48 inputs from the stage through the system's iDR10 mix rack, with 16 additional channels inserted from the mixing surface itself for a total of 64 inputs. An Aviom output card in the mix rack handles the 16 channels flowing through the personal monitor system. The final slot in the iDR10 is the iLive's EtherSound card, which proved to be a key element in the system design. Visit Allen & Heath at the infoComm Show, Orlando FL, Booth 6229, June 17 - 19. "We run several different bands in both contemporary and blended worship styles, so we knew we wanted to go digital," notes Guthrie. "Having the ability to save scenes and recall them on the fly makes a huge difference for us." Dustin wanted to do training by recording services on individual tracks, and allowing the volunteers to train by mixing the playback of the services during the week while the church is empty, an idea that Rutledge strongly endorses. To do this via the iLive, its EtherSound module was connected to a personal computer via a Digigram LX6464ES computer sound card. "It allows them to do 64 tracks of recording, then use the playback as a virtual service so the volunteers can mix it exactly as it happened," notes Rutledge. "When they open the satellite church, all their engineers will be fully trained and ready to go." For services, the console supports mixing subgroups via DCAs on the top layer, including groups for drums, vocals and guitars. "We set up initially and showed them how it works," says Rutledge. "They've taken it from there and made it their own." Three main outputs go to the sanctuary's left-center-right speaker system via BSS SoundWeb processing, while Aux outputs carry the mix to the choir monitor, one stage monitor and subwoofers. The 16 primary monitor sends are sent out via the iLive's Aviom module. For the new satellite location, Worship Resources specified an iLive T-112 console. "It was really the price point of the T Series that made this all possible," explains Tom Rutledge. "Besides the training aspect, the T Series will help save setup time for them. A single Cat5 cable replaces the microphone snake, and there's no need for an outboard effects rack. Plus they'll be able to transfer settings saved at rehearsal with a USB drive, so it's as close to plug-and-play as you can get." While several other consoles were considered, Dustin Guthrie kept coming back to the iLive as the logical choice for Radiant Church. "Having used it for several weeks now, I can say that the iLive really meets our needs without compromises," he states. "Having all that DSP on board with the ability to save settings gives us a lot more control over the sound of each instrument. Even though we didn't change the speakers, there's been a huge improvement in our sound quality. It's also very intuitive to learn, and with our recording setup, the training aspect is handled. It's made a world of difference."
EAW Unveils MicroWedge Series MicroSub EAW Unveils MicroWedge Series MicroSub
11:16 AM
High-Volume, Ultra-Versatile Stage and Small Venue Subwoofer Joins MicroWedge12 and MicroWedge15 in the MicroWedge Series MicroSub's Unique Design Gives Users Endless Configuration Options and Is Particularly Ideal for Drummers Whitinsville, MA, USA, June 11, 2009 - EAW unveils the new MicroSub stage subwoofer, the latest offering in EAW's MicroWedge Series of stage monitor products. The single-15" enclosure is a high-quality, high-volume, ultra-versatile stage and small venue subwoofer, designed to address the unique environment of onstage low frequency demands - sonic territory that often goes ignored by stage monitor setups. The MicroSub can be configured and interlocked in a huge range of different combinations - by itself, with other MicroSubs or with other MicroWedge units. Small pads and recesses are located on its sides, top and bottom. The loudspeaker is mounted at a 45-degree angle and the cabinet height is exactly half of the cabinet width when the MicroSub is laid flat (features which facilitate a variety of arrangement options). Due to its small profile, it serves as an excellent side fill monitor, particularly in a club setting: the 13" height allows the MicroSub to be used as a building block to achieve the optimum height for the top cabinets. It is versatile enough to fit in the monitor wedge line downstage or as an addition to many different types of stage monitor setups, understage and front-of-house. The MicroSub is particularly ideal for drummers. The box projects at a 45-degree angle, and it can stand on its side. When placed on stage directly next to the drum riser, the MicroSub points directly at the drummer rather than the drums. As the chief timekeeper of the band, drummers should have a particular punch and clarity to their kick's low end and the bass player's low end to go along with a finely-tuned rest of the mix, and that is what the MicroSub offers. For optimal performance, it is tuned at 35Hz, operating in the range from 27Hz to 150Hz. It features external DSP with one-way filter. Axial SPL Sensitivity is 92dB (LF - whole space) or 98dB (half space) at 27-150 Hz. Nominal input impedance is 8 Ohms LF, with minimum input impedance of 7.6 Ohms at 165Hz. The unit's High Pass Filter is a 12db/octave Butterworth filter at 28Hz. Able to produce high sound pressure levels, the MicroSub has a calculated SPL Axial Output Limit of 122dB average/128dB peak (LF - whole space) or 128dB average/134dB peak (half space). The MicroSub will be available in standard black, matching the other EAW MicroWedge units. The Baltic birch cabinets are protected with EAW's proprietary RoadCoatTM finish, highly resistant to dings and scratches, and the rugged steel grille keeps its distinctive shape, even when stood upon. Additionally, all transducer components are highly liquid tolerant.

Alcons yields sacred sounds Alcons yields sacred sounds
08:33 PM
Alcons yields sacred sounds The worlds fifth biggest basilica opts for Alcons QR36 modular speaker systems In houses of worship, intelligibility of the spoken word is crucial, something both the clergy as well as the technical crew of Gods houses have become aware of. The Belgian national basilica, the Basiliek van Koekelberg, is the countrys largest church, (the worlds fifth largest basilica) and used for big national ceremonies and services with international acclaim. Its cross shaped base-form with a 2500 capacity main nave and big side aisles, each with a capacity of some 250 visitors, a depth of 60m./197ft. plus the 7 seconds reverb made the assignment to provide accurate sound reinforcement a true challenge for audio company Pa-P.A and Alcons engineer Philip de Haan. After a first demo-session with Alcons QR36 sets equipped with double RBN1801 pro-ribbon HF drivers: two columns in the main national nave of the Basilica, one column in the parish nave, where it excelled over the existing recently installed beam-steered system in the A/B test, the church management decided to invest in the Alcons system. The result of the tests was astonishing and far better than the telephone-sound they had before, enthuses Luc De Paepe, managing director of Pa.P.A, And the church administration gave the green light for an Alcons configuration in the national nave. The QR36 was designed for difficult acoustic environments, but the national Basilica became the first church to install a set - contrary to most line array systems (that still have too much dispersion) they offer a perfect, almost absolute 3 vertical dispersion angle, projecting the sound right to the church audience. With the Basilicas architect Jos Van den Breeden, the Alcons QR36 speaker enclosures were tailored to fit the monumental architecture, and Alcons engineers configured the system from two meter QR36 columns, to obtain the perfect sound for the church. The speakers and custom stands were supplied in a special RAL ancient green finish, contrasting with the basilica interior and terracotta-finished pillars. Each of the QR36 combinations was equipped with an additional Alcons VR8 full range speaker cabinet for out-fill with large worship services, the VR8s are used as monitor speakers for the choir and in the side aisles. (Koekelberg basilica Brussel / Alcons press contd) Pa-P.A. removed the old and worn speaker system and installed two Alcons QR36 sets serving the whole church all of the cabling was replaced and incorporated in the church architecture. A mobile control desk, featuring two Alcons ALC2 controller-amplifiers and pre-configured DDP processors; A Soundcraft EPM8 console completes the configuration and provides an easy operable unit. Luc de Paepe: the intelligibility over the entire space is remarkable, with a measured STI of 0,7. The full-range 70Hz to 20kHz system response makes the vocals crystal clear, warm and in the face, even for the last row of seats; From front to rear, we have a 1dB SPL drop-off in the mid/high frequency band. And the nice part is, the system is very user-friendly, as it doesnt need any difficult (beam-steering) processing, its really plug and play! The system was baptised during a celebration for the Belgian army and in a ceremony with Congolese Bishop Monsengwo and stood the test glamorously. And this was the real reason for the renovation of our installation: we as a church attach much importance to Gods word if one cannot understand this, theres no reason for gathering in this church, says Basilica rector Herman Cosijns. More than the evolution in experiencing religion, with music and choir, the word is crucial. Its great that we have been able to purchase this equipment with the support an donations of so many in the archbishopric.

Britney Spears Tours US, Canada, and Europe with Solotech and Me... Britney Spears Tours US, Canada, and Europe with Solotech and Me...
08:33 PM
Britney Spearss Circus tour finds the pop diva in top form, bringing an in-the-round extravaganza to arenas across the US, Canada, and Europe. Montreal-based Solotech is masterminding the tours sophisticated multimedia, lighting, and sound, including a highly integrated Meyer Sound system, which provides consistent coverage across the arenas. Todays audiences are quite sophisticated, and expect album-quality sound at every show, regardless of the venues acoustics or other variables, observes FOH Engineer Blake Suib, whose previous tour credits include Madonna, Prince, Guns and Roses, and Annie Lennox. Meyer Sound has really been instrumental in providing the tools to achieve a seamless and cohesive sound to every seat of even the largest arenas. The 360-degree system begins with 64 MILO line array loudspeakers in four hangs of 16 cabinets each, along with two arrays of 16 MICA line array loudspeakers each. Four more hangs of 12 Melodie line array loudspeakers, along with four MSL-4 loudspeakers, complete the flown system. A total of 32 700-HP subwoofers provide massive low-frequency power, with eight boxes under each end of the stage and a block of four at each of the arenas four corners. In addition to the loudspeaker complement, Meyer Sounds system design, control and monitoring tools ensure system reliability for Suib. One of the challenges of mixing in the round is that theres a large part of the audience hearing a part of the system Im not, Suib says. If something doesnt sound right on the other side of the stage, Im not going to hear it at FOH. But using Meyer Sounds RMS remote monitoring system we can keep an eye on the performance of each component, so if somethings not right we can see it immediately. With a different venue nearly every night, Suib also relies on the MAPP Online Pro acoustical prediction program to configure the system. MAPP enables us to come up with an accurate representation of how the system will perform in that space. We use the Galileo loudspeaker management system to configure the system into different zones, each with its own equalization, time alignment, and performance characteristics. The SIM 3 (audio analyzer) allows us to measure and tune the entire system. Tuning a system of this size would normally take hours, but with this system, and the help from the Solotech crew, were usually up in less than an hour. Suib uses multitrack recordings of each nights show to fine-tune the system. Ive never been a big fan of sound checks, he says. Its rare that the band plays with the same intensity as they do in a real show. I run the multitrack of the last show and use the Digidesign consoles Virtual Sound Check to do my final tweaks. I trust the performance of the Meyer Sound system, and the PA sounds great every night.

At Floridas Northland Church, Meyer Sound Constellation Makes...... At Floridas Northland Church, Meyer Sound Constellation Makes......
08:33 PM
At Floridas Northland Church, Meyer Sound Constellation Makes Dallas Symphony Feel at Home In March 2009, Guest Conductor and Violinist Pinchas Zukerman led the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in an acclaimed concert at Northland, a Church Distributed in Longwood, Fl. Meyer Sound Constellation electroacoustic architecture provided an optimal acoustical environment in Northlands 3,000-seat sanctuary as the symphony touched the audience performing the musical masterpieces of Stravinsky and Schumann. Constellation enables multipurpose venues such as Northland to enhance their room acoustics at the press of a button, allowing them to host a wide range of events and provide the acoustics most appropriate for the audience and performers, while remaining invisible to the eye. With the physical characteristics of Northlands room optimized for amplified music, the success of the Dallas Symphony concert is notable, and made an impression on Mark Melson, the symphonys vice president of artistic operations. I was worried when I first walked into the building, confesses Melson, after seeing the vast, wide room, but my worries ended when the musicians started playing. The orchestra retained its natural warmth and presence at seats well out into the hall. Constellation incorporates the physical acoustics of a space with powerful technology and expert services to create flexible acoustical environments. The Constellation system at Northland includes presets that provide a range of reverberation times and level settings, supporting not only symphonic events but also reinforced sound and congregational singing. The Constellation system has helped the sanctuary accommodate the diverse acoustic needs of the Florida Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Kiev Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, country star Wynonna, gospel music singer Kirk Franklin, and contemporary Christian artist Michael W. Smith. In order to emulate the reverberation characteristics of the Morton H. Meyerson Center, the Dallas Symphonys acoustically impeccable home, Steve Ellison, director of applications, LCS Series, created a customized setting of early decay time (EDT) and reverberation time (RT). The resulting system had an RT of 2.4 seconds and an EDT of 1.9 seconds, very close to the Meyerson measurements of 2.6 seconds RT and 1.9 seconds EDT. The sound quality during the event was certainly appreciated by the audienceincluding Dallas Symphony President Douglas Adams. I was frankly amazed at how well the [Constellation] system worked, says Adams. What I found particularly impressive is how I could maintain a clear sense of the origination of different instruments at various places around the stage. Each was perceived in its proper place, as it would be with natural acoustics. The concert is a revelation to Marc McMurrin, Northlands executive director of operations, who reports that Constellation is a valuable asset as he offers Northland as a viable alternative performance space to organizations such as the Festival of Orchestras, a group dedicated to bringing symphonies to Central Florida. Already scheduled are Floridas Naples Philharmonic in October and the Detroit Symphony with conductor Leonard Slatkin in early 2010. Our senior pastor, Joel Hunter, refers to our new building as a communication device with a sanctuary attached, says McMurrin. Having the technology to present symphonic music gives us a great tool for communication, one that helps us in our mission to serve the whole community. Completed in late 2007, the Longwood sanctuary of Northland, a Church Distributed was the worlds first house of worship to incorporate Meyer Sounds Constellation electroacoustic architecture. The system encompasses MS-Constellation processors, MS-VRAS processors, Mic-Omni Constellation microphones, as well as the company's most compact and versatile loudspeaker models including UPJ-1P compact VariO loudspeakers, UPM-1P loudspeakers, and MM-4 miniature loudspeakers. Independent of the Constellation system, the sound reinforcement setup utilizes MILO line array loudspeakers, CQ-1, CQ-2, UPJ-1P, and UPM-1P loudspeakers, in addition to M3D-Sub directional subwoofer, with system processing and drive supplied by a Galileo loudspeaker management system. The building was designed by DCA Architects and Building Gods Way, with Daniel Cook as principal architect. The Northland Constellation system was designed by Sierra Madre, Calif.-based Platt Design Group and installed by the Burbank office of Electrosonic Systems, Inc., with final system tuning handled by Bob McCarthy, senior design consultant of Meyer Sound.
